Five Tips for Feasting Like A Pro
Feast like a pro, with these tips from a 5-year veteran!
Last night we thawed a pizza dough that Dave made before Christmas, and we made a pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella, garlic and red pepper flakes. For the past day or so, my snack at work has been tearing apart a loaf of rustic bread from Safeway and slathering it in butter. This morning, two pieces of whole grain toast with butter and a cup of freshly-pressed coffee made my morning a heck of a lot better, especially since I’ve been sick the past few days.
It’s incredible what the simple things will do for you. After a long holiday season with frequent travel, home repairs and starting a new job, the most restorative thing I can think of is to be at home with a cup of tea and a not-too-complicated dinner with Dave, and then to go to sleep in our own bed.
Going forward, I think it would do me good to consider these things a little more frequently – to remind myself to stop and observe the constants that make life what it is, and observe those constants alongside the things that stress me out. To contemplate the texture of bread, the salt in cheese or the flavor of butter or honey. The softness of my own sheets. The joy of life at home with my best friend. We bought a house this year, you know. And then we bought our first Christmas tree and put it in the front window.
Maybe it’s the cold medicine talking, but I think I’ve found my New Year’s resolution.
