I’m playing with sloe gin today. Unlike a many liqueurs, it’s not very sweet. It tastes a little more … piney, and outdoorsy.
That’s right, The Cocktail Diaries is back after a long, unintentional hiatus (of a few weeks).
It has been a sparse couple of weeks on the ol’ blog. Some of the reasons are work-related, some are family-related. I keep pretty quiet about very personal things on the blog, so let’s just say there have been some steep emotional ups and downs in the past week and a half. Nothing to worry […]
Woohoo! The Cocktail Diaries are back for real. And I have a renewed energy for them, because we just bought a bottle of Campari, which opens up a ton of new doors for cocktails. I had to start with one of my favorites, the negroni. It’s been SUCH a busy weekend. We are in the […]
This weekend was filled with a pretty good amount of tequila. We had our dear friends over for fajitas on a beautiful, cloud-free, 80-degree summer night. It was truly perfect. So I had to make one more tonight, and I also have to set the record straight about a few things: 1) A real margarita […]
I have to admit, the hot weather had had me drinking a lot more beer than cocktails lately. But when I accidentally bought 8 lbs. of cherries when I thought I was buying 4 last week, I was looking for creative ways to use them in a way that would last a long time. And, […]

We went up to Sauvie Island and picked blueberries, strawberries and two kinds of raspberries. The strawberries have already […]
It’s been a bit since my last cocktail post, so I’m going to get back into it with a personal favorite. The Vieux Carré is another piece of the craft cocktail spectrum that comes straight from New Orleans. And it contains a few of the hallmarks of NOLA cocktails, like cognac, Peychaud’s bitters and using […]
I mean, it’s cooked, so technically it’s no longer fresh. But it’s made from fresh strawberries and not weird flavorings and colorings. You get the idea. So far we have put this in cocktails, on crepes, and in Italian sodas. The only reason we haven’t used it for more things is because I have been […]
Alright, well, I hate to admit it, but today was a gloriously brisk fall day. Bah, humbug. 🙂 I am not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet. We have so little of it here in Portland! As I was walking outside in the chilly morning, putting off my run (which I did eventually […]
