The Cocktail Diaries: The Vesper Martini

January 3, 2023 by No Comments

Over the past couple of years of doing these posts, I have discovered that I really appreciate a good gin martini.

Maybe it’s the cold, clear and simple elegance. Or the fresh botanical notes combines with a tiny hint of sweetness from vermouth. Or the fact that it’s one of the easiest cocktails to make at top quality in the comfort of your home. But it’s just something I really enjoy. I think everyone can and should learn to make a fantastic martini at home.

And then, we martini lovers should explore a little! That’s what got me to try the Vesper. I have to admit, I don’t drink a lot of vodka in mixed formats – I need to learn my way around the spirit more. This drink uses both gin and vodka in the mix, so it hits both objectives. And, it uses one of my favorite current mixers, Lillet! (Though in a pinch you could maybe sub your favorite very floral, sweeter blanc vermouth).

Either way, this cocktail is well worth a shot, and may even make it into the martini-lovers’ usual rotation.
