1000 K St has a new tenant – But is it already doomed to failure?
An eagle-eyed Sacramento resident recently spotted a sign on the door at 1000 K St. This sign read, “Public notice of application for ownership change” which can only mean one thing – that this venue is getting a new owner. This comes after the space was previously occupied by the failed restaurant El Santo, whose sign still hangs ominously above the door.
This change got locals speculating as to what the new owner could bring to the space – and just as importantly, whether they could make it work or not. It’s no secret that this building has had several failed restaurants over the years and seems to be destined for failure.
It’s not just voodoo either, as the area has a homeless problem that is probably the main reason why it’s not worked out for recent tenants. Speaking of which, one Sacramento local wrote, “The venue is amazing. If the building owner would do something about the homeless encampment that pops up at the front door every day, the, location would be amazing too” in response to this point.
If you zoom into the sign, the name of the new occupier is ‘Calben’ which is apparently the name of the people who previously ran same people who ran the Bennigans and have owned other chain restaurants like Denny’s. However, others speculated that it could be turned into a nightclub named Kalle which is said to be opening in the area soon.
Irrespective of what turns up, we can only wish them the best. The building itself has pretty cool architecture and plenty of character. As mentioned though, the surrounding area is crime filled and our inner cynic wonders how this new owner will be able to compete against the surroundings.
