Andy Ngo awarded $300K over Portland protest beatdown
On Monday, a judge ruled that three individuals, who were unable to provide a defense in court against allegations of assaulting conservative author Andy Ngo during a 2019 demonstration in Portland, are collectively required to pay Ngo a total of $300,000. Multnomah County Circuit Judge Chanpone Sinlapasai distributed the damages evenly among the trio of absent defendants: Katherine Belyea, Madison Allen, and Joseph Evans.
The decision came after a trial lasting about an hour, during which Ngo’s testimony remained uncontested. It’s noteworthy that Joseph Evans now identifies as Sammich Overkill Schott-Deputy according to his legal name. Perhaps this new name is an indicator into the mindset of the attackers.
This comes after Ngo has campaigned tirelessly to bring his attackers to justice since the day of the incident. Before (and after the attack), Ngo has been a vocal critic of certain areas of the transgender community.
For now at least, it looks as though this story has finally seen an ending, after almost four years since it happened. During this four year period, the city has often made headlines because of the ongoing case. Looking at Ngo’s Instagram page however, it seems as though he is still as loud as ever with his message when it comes to LGBTQ+ issues.
