Angry locals ask – WHY have PDX government housing costs quadrupled in 5 years?!
In a document obtained by PDX Real, a shocking statistic was revealed which showed that the average cost of a local government-built house for a single-family home has more than quadrupled since 2017. Yes, that’s right – the paper reveals that just 5 years back, the costs stood at a mere $38,000. However, in 2023, these costs are over $165,000. Clearly, something is not right.
Even more strange, this document showed that a large cost of these houses went on ‘tree services’. This totalled over $22,700. As one angry resident wrote on Twitter, “I see $22,725 in ‘Tree Fees’. Trees are the vacuum cleaners of the atmosphere. They inhale CO2 and exhale oxygen. Isn’t it interesting that a state as heavily into Climate Change would tax homeowners for having trees?”
Another wrote, “Crazy how much money the city makes and yet they keep pushing for increased taxes when our money can’t be accounted for”
As you can see, the people of Portland are clearly unhappy, and rightly so. Just a few years back, mayoral candidate Sarah Iannarone once said “We don’t have a regulatory problem, we have a profiteering problem.” Which has since been quoted with regards to this shocking revelation. To make matters even worse, this information comes days after it was revealed that a number of wealthy Multnomah residents had left the state.
