Angry Portland Local SLAMS New Seasons Market – Calls them ‘Greedy’ in rant
Over the years, New Seasons Market has garnered a high quality reputation in Portland and is known for providing high quality produce. Unsurprisingly then, this comes with a price. However, since its take-over, one Portland local in particular has not been happy, and labeled them ‘greedy’ in an online rant, before going on to say ‘Everything just sucks. Bunch of greedy guys who took a once great store and just drove it off a cliff.’
So, why what was behind this outburst, and was it justified? Firstly, it’s true that it isn’t exactly local anymore, and the new ownership can be traced back to a South Korean company. Secondly, it’s also true that the prices have risen in line with this takeover. For instance, it now costs around $7 for a head of iceburg lettuce and even though it’s a high end store, this still seems high and is priced beyond even Whole Foods.
On the contrary, locals were quick to point out that Winco was a decent alternative. Apparently, Winco is partly staff-owned and is far cheaper. Now, to return to our main question, was this outburst justified – really it depends on your opinion. Undoubtedly prices at New Seasons have risen in recent times, but so have prices across the board.
In fact, even going back 10 years ago, New Seasons was always one of the more expensive stores in the state. With this said, although the rant is somewhat relatable – it does sound like the person in question is pointing out the obvious as this has been something that has gone on for quite some time now. If you have any thoughts or feelings on the food costs at New Seasons then let us know in the comments below.
If someone thinks New Season’s prices are high they can always shop somewhere else.
The problem people always blame the businesses but never ever blame government who never ever cut their share of taxes, minimum pay, utility charges. Etc that cause many of these price increases. Start with cracking down on excess government
I have received excellent service from New Seasons and everything has been particularly good. I’ve not had to return items nor has anything not been top quality.
Fred Meyers is the same. They don’t pay taxes, and yet their prices continue to rise.so corporations Greed.so now their profits are double.
And all those hungry / homeless people who once were local minimum wage productive workers in the food industry, that these privileged housed people have to wade through to get their 7 dollar head of lettuce will be giving 7 dollar head on 82nd to be able to eat at MC CRAP and buy fetenahl to kill the pain and cycle of the results of greed.
All about choices. When you choose to do drugs you may end up addicted. That’s a problem brought about by personal choice. And until there are actual consequences there will be no change.
New season workers get a 30% discount of food in their stores.
Definitely high prices!!!
I have boycotted NS for years, since they moved in on Hawthorn and will continue. Power to the people, not the money Dean
Prices are high not just at New Seasons but everywhere groceries are sold. One shouldn’t complain especially if they have other places they can go. I love it when people get caught up over prices they have no control over. Much to do about nothing.
Prices everywhere have gotten out of control, GREED seems to have become the major factor. For awhile the pandemic could be blamed but when RETAILERS realized people would pay more once caused by shortage GREED kicked in…soon Food will become a luxury!
I cannot afford to shop there.
The shopper has lots of options. No reason to get your blood pressure in a rant.
I go to New Seasons whenever I’m near one to perhaps get something special. While I would have to be in a different tax bracket to ship there regularly there’s some items Ive gotten hooked on and like to buy. But my latest effort tells me ,now I can’t ship there anymore. The recipe which I assumed should always be prepared for ertain itemsile Bean Cakes has tasted different each time . This lady time someone lost a dalt shajet in it and the price once again had risen. I’ll have to stick to my daughters advice..don’t buy there unless there’s a sale on and then you. Sn expect reasonable prices. Saddest of all I saw an item which you can buy at Fred Meyers for $3.59 being sold for $7.40 at new Seasons. Everyone deserves a profit but no customer should have to pay the price for greed.
