Artist re-designs the Portland MAX system and amazes locals with it
Founded back in 1986, it’s fair to say that the Portland MAX system is a key part of the city’s transport. In fact, without it, life would look very different, and getting around Portland would be a massive pain! With this said, the Metropolitan Area Express is a great part of the city – and I’m certainly not bashing it…however let’s also be honest, part of it is outdated and it could certainly do with some improvements!
For instance, according to Wikipedia, over 120,000 people used the MAX every day in 2019 which shows just how important it is for those traveling around PDX – and you’d assume that the majority of those people were traveling for work.
On social media, a user named Shades101 re-imagined an improved version of the MAX system, with added routes, more stops, and a generally more efficient-looking, modernized system. Understandably, the result was that people went wild for it!
As seen, this would certainly improve the transportation aspect of Portland and would make a lot easier for those of us on the move. Responses to this proposal included the likes of “As someone who lives East of 205, this is amazing! The whole East side needs more support from public transportation.” and “HELL YES PUT A LINE DOWN SANDY” – however, one more cynical response wrote, “Even in a fantasy world, we can’t get a train from Oregon city to Tualatin.”
Regardless, it should be noted that this map is merely an artist’s impression of what life could look like. The reality is that for now at least, the current MAX system looks like it’s here to stay for now and well into the foreseeable future.
