‘Awesome’ Mario Bros mural appears in Phoenix
This week saw an awesome Super Mario Bros themed mural pop up in Phoenix. This was titled ‘Super Barrio Bros’ which paid a nod to Phoenix’s Spanish roots. If you look closely, you’ll also notice these touches on both Mario and Luigi, who seem to be wearing bandanas, with Mario riding a lowrider too. Overall, it’s a high quality piece of art that has injected a lot of life into the area while also offering a cool take on Phoenix’s Hispanic influence.
For those interested, this mural is located at NWC of 16th and Van Buren and hopefully it isn’t vandalized or hit with tags anytime soon. Mario fans will also notice other characters from the game such as Goombas, Piranha Plant, and Toad.
Not only this, but one local also claimed that the wall around the corner also showed the next level, which features Mario’s main rival Bowser, and this level is located in a dungeon. This isn’t the first popular mural in the city either, as there is also a David Bowie painting that is equally as acclaimed.
Overall it seems that locals really enjoyed this piece, calling it names such as “awesome” and “fantastic.” On a similar note, this also shows that not all street art should be labeled as graffiti and sometimes, it can add a lot of charm and character to an area. If you appreciate street art in the Phoenix area then please let us know what your favorite mural is in the comments.
