Bizarre Pirate Flag found in Portland woods – But do you know what it means?
Typically, locals are used to seeing the sight of a green, yellow, and blue flag. This is of course, the official flag of Portland, Oregon. However, one PDX resident recently stumbled across this flag whilst taking a hike, and was confused about what it meant, and its origins. By the looks of things, this flag was not serious but nonetheless, it certainly got people talking.
As seen, this flag is of a rubber duck sporting a pirate outfit. Clearly, someone went out of their way to hoist the flag into the air and display it with pride. It also reads, “D.P.R” which is still unsolved. However, some have speculated that the ‘P’ stands for Portland. So, what does it mean then?
Posted on social media, it turns out that local sleuths got to the bottom of it. Strangely, the duck is a mascot for a Scottish rockband named Alestorm. In fact, the duck is so synonymous with the group, that they often do live shows with a giant inflatable duck sitting in the background.
How a Scottish rock group’s mascot ended up in a Portland forest is anyone’s guess. However, some local busybodies were also quick to point out that flying this flag without a permit was not legal either. Irrespective, this is yet another case of keeping Portland weird and shows the fun, quirkier side to the city.
I LOVE rubber ducks and will scan the internet for Alestorm!
