Car Brutally stripped of wheels in Austin
Yesterday, a photo emerged showing a black Chevrolet car that had its tires stripped while parking outside of Grove Market in Perseverance Dr. This showed an otherwise high-end car without its wheels (including its tires and rims) that were replaced with bricks. In fact, it’s surprising that the brakes weren’t taken either.
What makes this crime even more brazen is that took place in broad daylight – while also occurring in one of the nicer neighborhoods of Austin. This shows just how cocky thieves can be these days, while many crews often remove wheels within a couple of minutes if they’re skilled enough.
Typically, the wheels alone on a Chevrolet Camaro can be sold for around $1500 for a new set. You would imagine the rims would be similarly priced too. With this in mind, the thieves could easily make around $2000 or more from this job.
According to locals, this car had been sitting there for a number of days, and it may still be in the same location. One person even wrote, “I saw this yesterday. I parked three in front of it on the street to not have to pay for parking. The area looks nice, but there is quite a bit of crime in the grove.”
In fairness, the last sentence is quite true. Despite looking nice, this neighborhood seemingly has quite a lot of crime and often seems to have its fair share of theft and robberies in the area. It just goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover.
