Car BURSTS into flames on I-170 North Bound, St. Louis
Today saw a green car pulled over on the I-170 Olive BLVD exit. The car in question was on fire, with the bulk of the flames coming from the engine. In fact, the front of the car had turned from green to black which showed the ferocity of the flames.
As if the driver’s luck wasn’t already down, according to eyewitnesses, the car then caught fire yet again while being towed away. In other words, it’s fair to assume that this vehicle is now completely written off and unusable.
On the bright side, this didn’t explode and the driver got away safely, so it could have gone much worse in hindsight. Nonetheless, it’s still not a very nice experience for the driver to go through. Locals quickly speculated that one of the main causes of the fire could have been contributed to by the hot weather.
If you already have a car that has fragile electrics, then the St Louis summer heat could certainly play a factor in making things worse and provide a nasty tipping point. One resident even mentioned, “I used to work off 70 and North Hanley, I could not get through a week of commuting without seeing a car on fire.”
As mentioned, thankfully this didn’t end in a complete disaster – but it does provide a cautionary tale of driving in the scorching heat. Always make sure your car is regularly checked and if you think something is acting up, keep an eye on it before doing long distances.
