Chicagoan claims their car was ruined by bad gas – And the gas station DOESN’T want to know
A Chicagoan recently shared their experience on social media, where they’d allegedly put bad gas into their car. This apparently took place at the Shell on 2477 S Archer. According to the victim, they drove for one mile before their car broke down, which eventually cost them $1500 in repair fees. This was due to their gas tank being filled with lots of water, instead of pure gas.
Speaking on this, they also said “I can confirm that my neighbor and a close friend of mine also had their cars damaged from the exact same gas station. Though their levels of damaged are unknown to me.” and how the gas station manager was “irate” when confronted about the situation.
Now, if true – then this would be the fault of the gas station for incompetence. However, as others pointed out, this could have been a freak incident due to the recent floods that have plagued Chicago. If excess water somehow managed to enter the gas supply then this would actually make sense.
However, not everyone viewed the gas station with as much empathy – with one local adding, “I’ve heard this complaint about that exact gas station for well over a decade.”
Ultimately, it will be interesting to see how this one plays out and whether the victim decides to take the gas station to small claims court. Even if that happens, then their chance of success is still not guaranteed. So, whose side are you on?
The IL EPA should inspect that station. In ground gas tanks are supposed to be impervious to leaks both internal and external.
