Chicken Feet Stew Recipe

Whilst many Americans aren’t particularly open to the idea of eating chicken feet, I say go for it. In fact, chicken feet are also a delicacy in certain parts of the world such as the far east and in the Caribbean. For this particular dish, I have taken inspiration from Viet Nam where chicken feet stew is a bit of a delicacy.

Like many Asian meals, this is also very healthy. Culturally, us Americans aren’t too fond of eating certain body parts such as hearts and feet – but honestly, they’re incredibly good for you. Not only this (but more importantly) – they’re also very, very delicious.

In short, I genuinely believe that chicken feet soup is the ideal dish for a cold winter’s evening. This will fill you right up whilst also giving you adequate vitamins and nutrients to avoid the tiredness that is often created by the cold! In other words, have an open mind and give this a try…you just may learn to love it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs chicken feet
  • 2 tablespoons ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 large carrot, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup rice wine
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the chicken feet and pat them dry.
  2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the sesame oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the ginger, garlic, onion, carrot, and celery and cook until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the chicken feet, soy sauce, rice wine, brown sugar, and chicken broth to the pot.
  5. Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, until the chicken feet are tender.
  6. Stir in the green onions and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy your chicken feet stew with ginger!

Note: This recipe can be adapted to your personal taste. For example, you can add more or less ginger, use a different type of broth, or add other seasonings and ingredients to taste.
