Comedian Steve-O discusses decriminalized Portland laws
On a recent clip on his ‘Wild Ride’ podcast, comedian and former member of the Jackass TV show, Steve-O discussed the substance issues surrounding Portland City. It started off when his guest Trevor Wallace spoke about recently visiting the city as part of his comedy tour. This prompted Steve-O’s co-host to begin the conversation, by saying “We’ve been to PDX several times, and it was so bad this time, they were locking the doors to the stores, people were smoking tinfoil drugs out in the open, foil everywhere on the ground, stores closed.”
After this, Steve-O chimed in with an opinion of his own, adding “Dude, almost everywhere you look, just on the sidewalk, people with the lighters under the tinfoil, shooting up.” He continued, “That’s the thing, they de-criminalized it.”
Now, without sounding biased, you know things are bad when Steve-O of all people is critical of the substance issues surrounding the city. Over the years, he himself has suffered a lot of battles with addiction and isn’t exactly known as a stable character. On another note, it also shows just how crazy Portland can appear to outsiders, whereas most residents are seemingly numb to the current issues due to being surrounded by them on a daily basis.
It’s such a shame seeing people on that fentanyl,,,what a waste of time .And it makes Portland look ugly???
I’ve lived in Portland my whole life and It’s never been so blatantly drug infested. This coming from an ex-junkie, hard core daily user. I’m clean now, but for cannabis. I’m a huge fan of Steve-O I wish I could afford to see one of his shows live. Anyway My heart hurts for Portland. Because a lot of people have relocated to Portland just to use unbothered by police. Much love I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve seen Steve-O do since the very first jackass t.v. show.
Hell yes, I say No! I was born and raised in Portland, and moved across the bridge to Vancouver, and thank God it hasn’t gotten that bad over here Yet. What was the government thinking to give ppl the GO sign to be able to have once legal drugs, legal to possess as long as it under a certain amount. Its only going to get worse I’m afraid to go to Portland, our City of Roses is dying, our crime rates is out of control, everyday literally someone is getting shot and killed.Including my son in law last fall ,when a vehicle drove by him and shot at his car 58 times. My daughter his ex is now addicted to fentanal ,and I never know when I see her if that will be the last time! This is such a horrific state, that our city is in, so much sorrow.Unbelieveable. Good job, good decision, our government has made, Thanks for helping kill and jeopardizing our safety of our families.afad
It is truly sad I lived in Portland for over 20 years and loved it now I have a hard time going to Portland it makes me so MAD that the government has let this happen. Had people not wanted to DEFUND THE POLICE may it would be different
You know, I live downtown and I see all this stuff every single day. I’m asked just about every damned day, “you looking for blues?” I always say, “ughh, no, I’m not stupid and I don’t feel like dying today. How about you?”
What about this? I’ve done it several times now. When they ask for $$ I say, “No, I’m not giving anymore or just No.”
When I see them smoking up on the Foil in the bus stop or streetcar stop, in front of an apartment building, store I let them know, “hey man, that’s not okay to do here.”
Is anyone else doing that????
You must start doing that!!!
Yet the rent continues to increase …
The fentanyl crisis is happening everywhere. Recriminalizing drugs will not stop or help the issue. It will overwhelm and overcrowd the jails and prisons and will just be released to do more the same. How about more low income housing, more mental health and treatment facilities for a change. It is difficult to find treatment with little or no income. People do get turned away every day. Its serious but multi faceted situation. I would expect an ex addict to know that but I guess here we are talking about one non local man’s opinion and I suspect that was his main goal. Not to bring attention and helping Portland but adding to the unhelpful trash talk. Yes drug addiction is ugly and sad but its here to stay. Decriminalize or not.
