Although a democratic politician, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is not your typical liberal.

Dividing opinions, she is a proud gun owner and believes that her own democratic party has completely lost touch with the working class. She states “How [bleeped] is it that we don’t respect or listen to people until they have a college degree?”.

You would assume this is just another soundbite from a typical politician. However, she and her husband (Dean), own Deans Car Care in Portland. Whatever you think about politicians in general, or the views of Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, it is at least refreshing to see a normal person who owns a regular business get involved. This is a far cry away from the usual characters who become involved in politics with advisory roles on the boards of large offshore companies.

For what it’s worth – the auto repair shop actually has really good customer reviews, so people definitely value their service.

As a reminder, I own an auto repair and machine shop with my husband (it’s called DEAN’S CAR CARE btw).

Dean and I are working parents who have difficulty finding child care options and had to build our own home because it’s so hard to get a loan.

She went on to say:

‘I really believe what people want is is normalcy. We want people that pay their own taxes and that are on all the waitlists for daycare and are trying to navigate the world, like running a small business…

‘When we’re able to communicate that, that is how we can be relevant in rural communities that work for a living. ‘Things in America are not going to get better until we start electing a Congress that looks more like America.’

So overall, if you love or hate Gluesenkamp Perez, at the very least you have to respect she is a fairly normal woman with a kid and a small business.
