Detroit residents despair over John R road delays and ‘Constant construction’
In life, they say that two things are guaranteed with death and taxes. However, you could argue that while living in Detroit, there’s a third guarantee. Specifically, we’re talking about road works and congestion. In this case, the roads between John R and 14 have been constantly gridlocked lately – due to yet more construction work.
So, why is this? According to some, it’s due to the contractors who are employed by the city. In short, these people aren’t the most time-efficient when it comes to getting work done and big construction projects are often slowed as a result.
One local also claimed that the materials used to build roads simply weren’t good enough either – due to the freeze and thaw cycles and how much salt is dumped on the roads, nobody should be paving asphalt in Michigan. As a result, the roads need constant maintenance which leads to the common occurrence of ongoing construction. Ideally, the roads would use concrete instead, which is much more resilient.
Speaking on the matter, one quipped, “I swear to god that stretch of road is getting fixed every year since 1999.” whilst another added, “I live literally there it’s awful. Do we know when i75 is going to be done? Please God.”
Sadly, the end isn’t in sight anytime soon either. This work has been going on for months and is set to continue for the foreseeable future. In true Detroit style, it’s almost certain that when this finishes, more roadworks will be added at some time in the future. Until some kind of revolution is achieved (such as better materials to build with), then this cycle looks to go on forever.
