Diner UPSET after ‘sneaky’ 3% Kitchen Appreciation Fee added to breakfast bill

July 1, 2023 by 6 Comments

A diner at a Delaware restaurant recently vented their frustration at receiving a breakfast bill with a 3% ‘Kitchen appreciation fee.’ This added a total of $1.09 to their bill but claimed it was the ‘principle‘ that they disagreed with – and honestly, we can’t blame them. In fairness, the overall breakfast wasn’t too expensive but once again it returns to the point of being shortchanged.

This took place at The Peach Blossom Eatery on Main Street which generally has good reviews and a solid reputation. However, the diner also claimed that they weren’t informed of this fee before eating, which further added to their frustration.

This didn’t sit well with Delaware locals either – where one said: “I’m all for employees getting what they deserve. I just prefer that the owners give it from their own profits.” In a similar comment, another added: “Just because they call it a kitchen appreciation fee doesn’t mean it goes to the kitchen staff. Could mean that they let them keep their jobs.”

It goes without saying that paying staff more isn’t a bad thing. However, this could have been done by rising prices – and the fact that the diner was allegedly unaware of this before eating is why people are annoyed. Aside from this, the diner even claimed that the meal was ‘great‘ with no complaints. Nonetheless, you can see why people are growing tired of eating out with all things considered.

We were charged 18% gratitity each time we got a drink at Game Changers on Rt. 40 Bear, DE. When we questioned the waitress at one point she said ” If you don’t like it then don’t drink”.she also said “it’s on the menu’ but we didn’t get food.

It’s like the delivery fee that the driver does not receive. I stopped buying from places that charge this

I had the same thing happen to me at the pizza palace in Millsboro, I won’t go back there again

Thanks for listing names of these restaurants. Customers need to know prices before they order. To do otherwise is dis honest.
