DIY Confessions Box appears in Dude Chilling Park, Vancouver
As if Dude Chilling Park wasn’t zany enough as it is, it now has a new addition. Ladies and gents, we present the DIY Confessions Box that appeared overnight just a couple of days ago. It has since gone viral and represents the quirky spirit of the park perfectly. So, what do we know about this bizarre addition to the park?
Firstly, if you look closely – it looks to be made from the wood used for a development application for new apartments. In fairness, usually these are scrapped after a while, so this is a good example of recycling for the benefit of the community.
In fairness, the structure looks to be well put together, but we doubt there’s been planning permission or health and safety involved with this one.
It also has a fair amount of graffiti, as well as a sign saying ‘Free Vancouver Confession Booth’. Who said Canadians don’t have a distinct sense of humor? It’s not known if there’s a priest involved or whether it’s just a park local. Nonetheless, as Guelph Park is pretty busy, you should be able to find someone to hear your sins.
It seems that this installation has gone down well with locals as well, as one commented, “This is the art that Vancouver needs… and deserves…” whilst another quipped, “We all do what we have to, to maintain the neighborhood character. If other people have to live in shacks like this, that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.”
Whether this one will last the distance remains to be seen. Hopefully, it stays and like Dude Chilling Park, it goes on to be one of the more unusual tourist attractions of British Columbia.
