Fantasy Light Rail system gets HUGE love from locals who beg for it to become reality
While Charleston is a nice enough city for the most part, it’s arguably missing one thing – a proper Light Rail system. This would allow residents to get around the city with greater ease and would be hugely convenient for commuters and travelers getting out and about.
It goes without saying that implementing something like this would not be particularly easy, nor would it be inexpensive – so for now it’s merely a dream. Nonetheless, this mock-light rail system got a lot of love when it went viral on social media.
Made from four colors, this shows the blue line that goes from Folly Beach to Summerville Nexton, a smaller red line that goes from Main Road to Meeting Street Station, a yellow line that goes from Sam Rittenburg Ave to Mt Pleasant Town Center, and a brown line that goes from Meeting Street Station to Isle of Palms.
This is actually a pretty simple design and doesn’t overcomplicate things, while it doesn’t miss any key stops either. Speaking on the matter, one local said “I’ve been thinking about light rail since I moved here in 2006. I come from a city that has one of the oldest light rail systems in the US and I could definitely see it working here. I think the only way to connect mt p to the peninsula would be with a rapid bus line that has its own lane. Building a dedicated train bridge over the Cooper that is tall enough to allow the mega ships thru would be massively expensive.”
In the mean time, you could claim that the proposed rapid transit bus lines are a good start. Until then, it looks like this remains a fantasy – and even if it did become a reality, it would take decades before it could actually be used.
