Over the past week, one of the most popular gyms in Milpitas San Jose closed. Even more surprisingly, this happened overnight – just days after being open, with no apparent warning. Further still, this gym had been around for years with no apparent issues. So, what happened, and why was such an established gym closed?

According to locals, there is one main theory floating around. This is because the rent was suddenly raised by the landlord which made the location no longer viable. And, while this source hasn’t been confirmed – it would make sense as this is often one of the most common causes for retail spaces closing.

Speaking online, one San Jose resident wrote: “I had a membership with them and they moved a bunch of members to Planet Fitness in Milpitas. It was a great gym.” So thankfully, there is always Planet Fitness which seems to be dominating the gym industry throughout the entirety of the USA these days. Based on their closure, some also blamed its location which wasn’t the best from a population point of view.

Further evidence of Fitness 19’s closure can be viewed on their main Google page, which literally says “permanently closed” in large red lettering. Although it’s early days, it will be interesting to see what replaces this gym and most likely it will be some kind of store or restaurant so watch this space.
