Hilarious billboard MERCILESSLY trolls Chicago residents
A billboard that was funded by the Old National Bank recently went viral which read “They’re doing 150 MPH on Columbus Drive right now (sorry to rub it in)” This was mockingly displayed above on 90/94 which is notorious for having slow traffic. Arguably, this is also a fantastic piece of advertising, because not only did the billboard go viral – but it was also displayed to the thousands of Chicago residents who would have seen this in their cars while plodding along at 15 MPH. Having said this, you could also see how it may create some resentment against the Old National Bank too!
This advert was also inspired by the local NASCAR event going on in Chicago at the time, which is where the high MPH comes from as Columbus Drive was part of the NASCAR route.
Despite the advert’s creativity and hilarity, not everyone was happy. Some even claimed that it may have gone too far in annoying those that read it. In fairness, they have a point. Imagine driving along, being frustrated in a huge traffic jam. Now, imagine looking up and seeing this gloating image. Sure, some may see the funny side, but if you’re easily annoyed then it may lead to holding grudges against Old National Bank!
Irrespective, this is undoubtedly an example of genius marketing and shows that sometimes, it pays to think outside of the bubble.
