Hundreds of buckets show futile attempts to stop leaks at Oviedo Mall
Arguably, one of the biggest signs of a dying mall is when repairs aren’t made. If this is true, then this isn’t good for the Oviedo Mall in Orlando. As seen in the image below, the mall in question had lots of buckets out to collect the rain water from the leaking roof. However, according to the photographer, this was only a small percentage of the buckets used – and there were apparently hundreds of buckets used throughout the mall.
In fact, various Orlando locals chimed in, claiming that this was a common sight at the mall and it had been in this state for years. If correct, then this makes you wonder just how badly damaged the roof is, and why it hasn’t been fixed.
Having said this, many also believed that this mall wasn’t doing as badly as others in the area and had actually improved compared to where it was a few years ago. For instance, Fashion Square was mentioned many times when it came to malls performing badly.
According to one Orlando resident, the flooding was to blame with the mall’s manager. Although this isn’t confirmed, they said: “The manager who also runs the hamburger joint in the food court whose entire staff quit and he whined on Facebook that, “no one wants to work,” and then ran for mayor. THAT manager. The dude can’t run a hamburger joint or a mall, wants to run a city. What a joke!”
Overall, it would be a shame if the Oviedo Mall did go extinct and although a bad roof is an ominous sign, it looks as though this is a case of business as usual for this mall which is somehow surviving against the odds.
It’s the Oviedo Mall in Oviedo Florida. Yes, it’s been chugging along for 25 years. The rooftop need special attention. There is hope new businesses are moving in soon. Hopefully management will find the funds to take care of those leaks. Preventing falls in people injury is paramount.
