Images show new Portland Art Museum Pavillion as work continues to take shape
This month has seen the Portland Art Museum continue its expansion, as its new Mark Rothko Pavillion continues its progress. Originally, work started on this project back in January this year. However, it has finally started to take shape. In short, the goal of the pavilion is to link the two main buildings together. This is because typically, the Portland Art Museum has been divided into two. Below is an artist’s impression of the new pavilion and what it will look like when it is completed.
As seen, this will provide a focal point for the museum, whilst also displaying a lot of light. It is named after Mark Rothko, a famous Latvian artist who originally settled in Portland, before going on to become world-famous.
Having said this, sometimes beauty does come at a cost. Throughout the month of May, some parts of the museum will be temporarily closed. For instance, certain floors will be closed, whilst entire exhibitions such as the European, Chinese, and Asian art galleries will be closed whilst the work goes on. Some of these closures are short-term, whereas others may last until 2025. If you want to know more about this, then check out the closures on the Portland Art Museum website.
Still, I think we can all agree that this will look fantastic when complete and should add a new dimension to our already wonderful art gallery!
