Iowa resident photographs rare Cicada shedding skin
If you’re from Iowa then you’ll be aware of the Cicadas that populate the state. Sometimes mistakenly called locusts, these are often viewed as pests due to their ability to fly. Although harmless, some people are grossed out by them. If this is you, then you may not want to see the image below which shows just how weird they truly are!
This photo was taken yesterday by an Iowa resident who managed to capture a Cicada during its shedding process. Here, the Cicada’s old skin was a hazy brown, whereas its new form showed off a fresh green coat. According to the photographer, this process also took several minutes and was not a quick transition.
Despite Cicadas being common within the state, most people will rarely catch their shedding transformation in person, so this is considered a pretty rare sight. However, it isn’t too unusual to see their previous skin left behind. Interestingly, the Cicada looks far bigger in its green form compared to its old skin – which shows that it was probably natures way of growing out of its old form.
Seeing the funny side of this, Iowans claimed that it was also a rare image of Kim Reynolds in her natural form. Now, being impartial – we obviously can’t comment. However, this remark didn’t fail to get a few laughs.
