“Is this even legal?” – BIZARRE Requirements listed for Phoenix fast food job
Often when looking for jobs, you may see certain strict requirements. However, this job audition letter went the extra mile in what you could and couldn’t do – and got Phoenix residents asking whether it was legal or not.
As seen below, the audition email was sent to a potential employee who was genuinely shocked at how strict the procedure was. What’s more baffling is that this was for a job at Yogis Grill on Baseline N 24th – so it wasn’t exactly an audition for the FBI either.
Perhaps the most bizarre demand was to have ‘no loose hairs’ which is almost impossible to control, while you also weren’t meant to ask questions about the role either. Overall, it was a pretty strange letter and looked like a parody.
On social media, the people of Phoenix reacted with a mixture of bewilderment and disgust – with one claiming, “They basically are trying to hire without committing anything to training. Offloading training costs to an unhired employee. And it’s absolutely illegal to tell people not to discuss wages. On top of this Yogis is also cheap with their teriyaki sauce if you order to go. Forget them.”
Elsewhere, another person had cottoned on to their antics and added, “It was my understanding that recommending they don’t talk about wages (like seen here) is technically not illegal but then can’t forbid it or punish people for doing so.”
Overall, this left a very sour taste in everyone’s mouth and shows just why fast food workers are sick with certain working conditions. And, if this is the norm then you can’t blame them.
I don’t see the issue. They have an expectation of being able to tell workers from customers with the uniform. Getting to work on time, what is the issue with that? They are on the clock and being paid for those 15 minutes. They want to know how the person they are hiring operates on their own accord that way they can correct what may be an issue. If you want the job you will abide by the rules, if you cannot abide by the rules then DON’T AUDITION. Simple as that.
It’s not like they are going to be on some grand stage performing. It’s a restaurant! The “audition” is supposed to be the time when a new hire can ask any questions they need. Also if they want or require you to get to work 15 min early and they also pay for it then why not just make it the actual schedule? You can’t schedule somebody for a specific time and expect them to just show up 15 min early even if you are paying them. They only”have” to be there the time the schedule says.
