Is this the biggest rip-off in Hawaii? Chicken Salad spotted with EXTORTIONATE price tag
Spotted this week in Foodland, this probably wins the prize for being the most expensive chicken salad that is available to buy from a store in Hawaii. Priced at $22.99 per lb, this included curried chicken, nuts, raisins, and not much else. In fact, the idea of this being labeled as a ‘Chicken salad’ in the first place is stretching it. This was usually advertised at $23.99 per lb, but hey – a dollar is still a dollar!
Advertised as a ‘Maika’i special’, this didn’t look particularly appetizing to begin with, but at that price, you can see why the tray looked untouched. It makes you wonder if anyone actually purchased any before the day was over.
Now, we know that food prices have risen on the island of late – but even still, this has to be one of the highest priced items to buy from Foodland. Locals reacted as you’d expect as well, with one saying, “I wonder who ever actually buys some of that food and how much gets thrown out every night.”
Another claimed, “Brah what!? Are they charging poke prices for chicken salad!? That’s going too far haha.” Actually, when you think about it, even most poke prices are far less than this and probably nicer too. What’s ironic is that Hawaii actually has some of the healthiest, natural food sources in the USA – however, if people are actually buying this then fair play to Foodland at least.
There prices are getting out of hand.only shop there if I need an item or two. The place is filthy and it stinks. The delivery works are the rudest. Health department should go there and shut them down
Worst deli if any grocery chain in Hawaii .They haven’t made a y changes to the frozen and fried old sad deli in over 25 years. They definitely need to Modernize there core items. It could be so much better.
Foodland is not for locals, they cannot even run advertising for us. Foodland is for themselves not for residents of Hawaii, shame on them. Cannot beat the Japanese, at least we can see their sale prices.
