Is this the trashiest car sticker sighted in Portland?

May 4, 2023 by 35 Comments

Spotted on the bumper of a Subaru car with an Oregon license plate, the sticker had the US medical association sticker next to a caption that read “I narcanned your honor student.” Since being photographed, this image has gone viral.

So, what does this car sticker mean exactly? According to this website, the term is an old meme that is used to describe the process of saving someone who has overdosed on opiates. In short, Narcan is a medicine brand that is used to block opiates and treat them once they enter a person’s bloodstream. As a result, the term ‘narcanned’ was born, which briefly describes this process.

To go further, this meme is also based on saving the life of an honor student, which alludes to the idea of anyone being able to OD on opiates, no matter their class or social background. Overall, it has to be said that this sticker is incredibly trashy and bizarre, to say the least.

As a result, the sticker was mostly criticized on social media and rightly so. Obviously, it’s not illegal or anything but given the current state of opiate abuse in Portland, it does seem a touch insensitive. Not only this but it also seems to be reaching a little too hard to sound edgy. Nonetheless, this is Portland we’re talking about and stranger things have been sighted over the years.

  1. I think it’s a positive sticker makes you think it’s all people that get into trouble in all walks of life. Made me think. Good 4 the person who narcanned!

I don’t think it is trashy at all. It is only offensive if you want to pretend it can’t happen to your loved ones. Addiction and accidental overdoses can happen to ANYONE. Let’s stop the stigma, take the blinders off and solve this problem. Check out the Oregon Mom’s for Addiction Recovery. They are working on finding solutions.

I agree totally! I can tell you that I have lost 8 friends in 2 years from Fentanyl (sp) overdose. What is it going to take to get this crap off our streets & out of the hands of our younger people? They are our future after all.

        1. Denise says:

I think the bigger question is, what is driving people, including your honor student, to seek out these drugs?

    2. Gloria says:

I totally agree… everyone thinks that the opiate crisis is only for low lifes…well I beg to differ with people. I know alot of Dr.s lawyers and other “higher” class people who have addictions..

    3. Azrael says:

I’m a drug counselor at a methadone clinic. It’s only trashy to the people that have their blinders on to the reality of this. I probably have narcanned an honor student or two. Addiction is like cancer. It doesn’t care about your socioeconomic status or IQ.

  2. Andrew Spriggs says:

I want one so I can express the issue Biden has brought on us citizens

    1. Michael says:

What issue is that? Surely not drug abuse. That has been going on for a millennium.

      1. Danny says:

I guess it would be to far fetched to realize the Mexican drug cartels are flooding America with cheap and plentiful fentanyl and carfentanyl sent to them from China as precursor chemicals and processed into the product in superlabs owned by Sinaloa and others? To big of a stretch to comprehend that our southern boarder not being shut down as was planned by the 45th President has allowed the largest terrorist attack in our nations history to go virtually unchecked. In other words, the person wasn’t talking about drug abuse. They were speaking on this administrations failure to protect the American people.

        1. FyouandTrump says:

Not so smart, are you. Sad.

    2. Karen says:

Oh please, the opioid crisis started long before Biden was in office, matter of fact it got out of hand when Don the Con was in office. Make sure of your facts.

    3. David Gletne says:

I like that one. I wouldn’t narc an that moron in the WH

  3. Ammers says:

Im sorry i dont think its trashy i think its blunt and honest. To honest for some maybe. Pointing out that anyone even honor students are sadly falling victum to the dangers of getting there hands on dangerous fatal drugs just like everyone else. Its true so not understanding how its trashy. Its blunt. These days theres no room for sugar coating,or being in denial about whats actually going on.

    1. Kathryn Harvey says:

I like the way you worded my thoughts exactly. Sadly in this day and age anyone call fall victim to these deadly drugs! Say it out loud! Show that we know what’s really going on!

  4. John Scribner says:

The bumper sticker is alluding to the fentanyl epidemic and how no One is safe from it, and even many who OD from it never even meant to take it, men women and children. It also suggests that you should open your eyes to what’s going on, and perhaps vote differently.

    1. Russ says:

Yes I agree, if you don’t like this Democrat Biden era then vote accordingly and vote for a positive change.

      1. RICK STONEBRANCH says:

Democratic era, not Democrat era. Unfortunately, too many Republicans are sadly uneducated in the basic rules of English grammar.

  5. The sticker is very fitting and nothing disgusting about it! It lays out the truth of the matter regarding opiates in our society today! Any who took offense to it probably needs to be discussing the affects of opiates and how easy it is to overdose! I’m lucky my kids are grown, but I’m still talking to them about never using opiates as I don’t want to he one of those parents that has to go and identify my children in the morgue. And bumper sticker is Clear that no one is above the threat of using drugs not even honor students.

    1. Peg says:

I agree it brings attention to a real problem in a non-offensive manner

  6. Smith says:

This sticker is a variation or play on the many popular “My child was student of the month/on the honor roll at _______.” It is a real reality to the fact that your beautiful, smart child can also be a victim to this opiate/fentanyl epidemic crises that the US is facing. That it’s not just some homeless drug addict on the street that you don’t care about. Drug use and drug addiction can happen to anyone and we need to realize that and do something about it. It’s not trashy. It’s reality.

  7. Candle says:

How is this sticker trashy considering how filthy PORTLAND REALLY IS THESE DAYS. Literally there are people smoking these drugs on the max in the open and nothing is being done about it. Not to mention someone Literally fell over dead from a drug overdose and I had my then 5 yr old at the time with me which was traumatic for her and come to find out it was a college student. This sticker isn’t trash it’s facts… quit being so thinned skinned and being offended by truth.

  8. Donna says:

I think it’s brilliant!! It goes to show you that everyone is affected by this and no one is immune. Even the popular, rich kids and the A student. It can happen to anyone!! And don’t let anyone bring you any open bottles to drink from!! Get it ur self!! Amen to you for this sticker and to the writer, way to word your headlines!!

  9. Tom says:

The owner of the bumper sticker certainly needs narcanned

    1. A Fitts says:

Are you sure you know what being narcanned really means? Because I don’t see where the correlation to the driver having this sticker makes any sense…. Unless he was passed out and crashing into other vehicles whilst ODing — since narcan is a life saving medication administered to those overdosing from opiates — but I’m sure there’s some logical other explanation for your judgemental comment. If so, please, I’d love to hear it.

    2. Michael Nelson says:

0h! Give me a break, Biden caused the drug problem? We’ve had drug problems since I can remember and I’m 74. When I was 19,I flew back from Vietnam with a guy who was
      high on opium.

      1. Danny Ingram says:

Biden didn’t cause the “drug problem”as a whole, nope. But, he did fail in finishing the protection our southern boarder needs, allowing the drug cartels to flood America with cheap and plentiful fentanyl and carfentanyl. The precursor chemicals are sent to cartel superlabs from China, and together those countries and the geriatric innocent sniffer we got at the helm have this country in the largest terrorist attack we’ve had in our history, to bad it isn’t being seen for what it is.

  10. I think its great – more people need to know about Narcan and how and when to use it. Unfortunately now that the information about Narcan is getting out, the drug pushers are making drugs that are just as deadly and that do not contain opiates, so Narcan will not be effective against them. Drug abuse and experimentation among youngsters has been, and still is, so prevalent in our Country. My opinion is that if people don’t educate themselves and realize that any kids (even their own) are suseptible to overdosing, then drug abuse will continue to be one of our biggest problems. This is one situation where being “woke” really is important.

    1. Melvin Lewis says:

People voted for it let them waller in it .

    2. William Huff says:

So? Anyone could OD. Nothing to degrade the owner of this sticker.

  11. Jocelyn Howells says:

I agree that this is a positive message for all the reasons already cited. Anyone can be a victim of fentanyl. One of my dear friends lost one of her daughters a year ago from fentanyl.

  12. Laura Abel says:

    I’ll take a dozen!
    Point made.

  13. Mr.Skulls says:

Its perfectly appropriate. Anyone complaining is likely one of the addicts or the wackos who are a huge part of the problem.

  14. Jeffrey Kelly says:

Thank God that the owner of the sticker really is a FIRST responder and is medically trained to save the lives of everyone who needs it and he doesn’t care who they are or what they need he will do it for all equally and the trashy point of this is the one who doesn’t get it and I hope that they have got a better understanding now of how important it is to have this sticker put it on your kids lunch box or even your fridge

  15. Beard says:

Nah,I gotta second, third & fourth everybody else’s sentiments . . . It’s brilliant & working ti destigmatize the BS Sometimes the truth hurts folks, but that’s typically when it’s more important than ever to listen up!! Some damn folks are just WAAAY to sensitive . . When I was in HS I got my mom the bumper sticker that said “My Kid Beat Up Your Honor Student”; got it at damn Spencer’s Gifts, it was a joke, only a joke guys . . . But she worked for the state & her coworkers were so outraged she was bullied until she removed it

  16. Christine says:

This is great! I saw this sticker on this car months ago. And I took a picture of it for sure. Really tho, why cares.
