Is this the Ultimate renovation project? FREE Winnebago available for pick up near PDX

They say there’s no such thing in life as a free lunch. However, it seems that this saying isn’t exactly truthful. It turns out that sometimes if you look hard enough, you can get some pretty cool, free stuff. In this case, we found a free Winnebago Chieftain that is located in Hood River, which is roughly a one-hour drive from Portland.

So, what is the catch? As seen below – this Winnebago is old, to say the least. It’s also not in the best condition. Having said this, for its age – the exterior really isn’t too bad and we’ve seen much worse over the years.

In fact, surprisingly it sounds like it’s in pretty good condition – with the ad reading, “pre gutted motor home with generator and bathroom ready for remodel. I don’t know if the engine runs but it did recently. Brakes work but not sure about anything else mechanically. Probably would have to be towed. All the tires hold air though.”

Speaking of ‘gutted’, this description is certainly truthful and the inside is almost like a shell. This gives the new owners a creative license to do as they please. At the same time, the bathroom is still intact with a shower and toilet. Whether this still function is anyone’s guess though. Still, as it’s free you can’t really complain.

As seen above, many of the retro features are still present, just about. So, who would suit this Winnebago? Firstly, it could be restored by a mechanic as it sounds like it needs some work doing. However, if you had the land then it could potentially be transformed into some kind of off-grid living space, such as an office in your yard, or some kind of guest house. As mentioned, it’s up to you – but act quickly, as this one may be gone at some point.
