Knoxville locals ‘disappointed and impressed’ by MASSIVELY out of date license plate

June 25, 2023 by 5 Comments

Every now and then, you may stumble across an out-of-date license plate that needs renewing. However, this one really took the term ‘out-of-date’ to the extreme, and was met with universal mockery due to being over 2.5 years out of date. At the same time, some Knoxville residents admitted that they were impressed by the sheer length that the license plate had managed to survive without being updated.

As seen in the photo below, the car in question was a silver Toyota 4Runner – and last had its plates done in October 2020. This is well beyond the grace period of 90 days for expired car tags in Knoxville.

On a serious note though, we can also see the serious side of this – and driving without a renewed plate is a criminal offense in the city. Not only this – but it’s not even very expensive to update your tags, especially when you can afford a Toyota 4Runner.

Equally, it’s quite strange that during those years – this car hasn’t been pulled over once which may be due to luck more than skill. Still, most people would often drive with paranoia having these tags, especially if the police happened to be nearby.

While on the subject of dated plates, if you have any stories of seeing anything that has lasted beyond the aforementioned 2.5 years in the wild, then let us know in the comments.

I have seen many in Blount County with the old expired plates. I did it, I know I would be pulled over and fined. Actually seen on a Mercedes SUV recently.

Sometimes I personally believe it’s one of two things….. Either a lack of officers paying attention to those things(although minor but important as well) or the type of vehicle… Seems to me like the type of the car, the less likely something as minor as an out of date sticker is noticed. I mean, is it that MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, if u have a nice car you will automatically be considered to be a driver who will or can afford to renew your registration. Just MY OPINION THO OF COURSE. either way, every one with a registered vehicle should renew their tags. I know there’s a lot of cars in any county, but paying more attention may help. ‍♀️‍♀️ Just my personal opinion. Have a blessed day and hope everyone stays safe on the roads. ✌️

I fully agree with the nice car comment also I’m not going hate on them for not paying the outrageous price for tags now days. I’m 42 and tags are like $53 in hamblen county but less than 20 years ago they was only $26 before so called wheel taxes roads are same shape as before garbage.

I just renewed my Tennessee Hamilton County Tag from 2019 in March of this year and had never been pulled over not one time. I owed 120.00. The girls in the office couldn’t believe it. They had even quit mailing the tag renewal slip. But I now have the shiny new blue tag and all legal. Sandy D. Hamilton Co. Tn.
