Today, Portland woke up to sad news that the legendary drag queen Darcelle XV died, aged 92 years old. Real name Walter W. Cole, Darcelle was once certified in the Guinness Book Of World Records as the oldest drag queen in the USA. At the time, Darcelle was 85 years old.

Over the years, Darcelle became an icon within the Portland scene and was an early pioneer for the LGBTQ community. He also went on to open a successful nightclub and was loved by many. At this moment in time, the cause of death has not been mentioned but based on the age, many have speculated that it is due to natural causes.

Darcelle is survived by two children and was also once given the Spirit of Portland Award. With this in mind, it’s clear that Darcelle was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
