Locals BLAST East Glisan pizzeria for whopping 20% pick-up fee

May 29, 2023 by 2 Comments

Recently on social media, Portland locals voiced their frustrations regarding East Glisan and their astonishing 20% pick-up fee. According to the pizzeria, this fee is split between staff – but regardless, locals aren’t very happy and have branded the fee ‘extortionate’.

Overall, East Glisan pizzeria has a good reputation in Portland and has a 4.6/5 on Google with almost 1000 ratings. Founded in 2014, it’s been going strong for almost ten years, so it’s obviously doing something right. Nonetheless, it does seem pretty steep to charge a 20% pick-up fee, seeing as the customer is literally the one picking up the pizza.

In fairness, their pizzas are pretty delicious.

Obviously, if this money is split between staff then it’s not so bad. Nonetheless, the point made on social media was that it should be at the customer’s discretion whether to tip or not. And, if a fee was to be imposed then it should be lower than the standard 20%.

One Portlander wrote, “Another one for me to never go to, thanks. It’s wrong and bad, and you shouldn’t go back there.”

Whereas this local was less angry and replied, “Legally you should be able to ask them to remove it. That said, it’s 20% and everything is expensive these days. If it’s truly split among staff, I’d just pay it and eat my delicious pizza at home.”

Whether this fee will stay remains to be seen. However, it’s pretty clear that wrongly or rightly, most people are not happy paying it.

Food service borkers depend pn tips. Unfortunately, many do not tip when they.order pickup. There needs to be a change to sipport workers. Here are ghe options:
    1. Raise prices and increase wages.

    2. Establish a pickup fee. 20 percent is not inreasonable for a tip.

    3. Reduce profits for the restaurant by paying higher wages.

The tip system is rally unfair to workers. It should be changed, and restaurants should charge prices that a)ow for adequate pay to workers.

The Tipping system in the U.S. is unfair to the workers. Customers take advantage of it to steal from the staff.
    Get rid of it!

Add 20% to all of the prices, pay the staff accordingly and be done with it.
    It’s soooooo simple.
