Locals cause MASSIVE line for Green’s Lunch – But the reason is tragic
Green’s Lunch is one of Charlotte’s most iconic food spots and arguably does the best hotdogs in town. Founded back in 1926, it’s stood the test of time while many similar restaurants have come and gone. However, in almost 100 years of its existence, you’ve probably never seen a line quite like this one, which occurred on Monday lunchtime.
As seen in the image below, the queue almost wrapped around the block and Charlotte locals weren’t phased by the sticky heat or blistering sun. Instead, they waited patiently to get their hands on hotdogs. Usually, you may see a few people outside – but this queue is possibly the biggest that Green’s has ever witnessed. Unfortunately though, this line isn’t a coincidence and it actually spells out bad news for hotdog lovers.
So, why was this? Well, as mentioned – Green’s has stood the test of time, until now. Unfortunately, it’s actually closing on Wednesday for good. In a recent Facebook post, the eatery said, “We would like to thank our loyal customers for these wonderful 97 years.”
Responding to this post, many residents paid their respects and shared their memories of eating there. Sadly, this is a sign of the times and shows that for physical retail spaces around Charlotte, you’re never too far away from closing. On a final note, if you’d like to pay homage to a Charlotte food institution then head on over during the next two days, as afterward it’s closed for good.
