Locals have seen the new prices of chicken at Publix – And they’re NOT happy

July 8, 2023 by 17 Comments

For years, Publix has provided decent fried chicken in Orlando and although it’s not exactly fine dining, it does the job. However, recently locals took to social media to air their discontent with the prices that Publix had on offer.

This came after one resident claimed that it cost $25 for a tray of 6 pieces. Now, we know that inflation is real and food prices have gone up a lot lately. However, 6 pieces of chicken for $25 seems incredibly high – especially from a grocery store.

Reacting on social media, one Orlando local had this to say, “Winn Dixie and Aldi are my goto now. Winn Dixie runs a lot of similar BOGO deals and has special weekend pricing on meat a lot. Snagged some boneless ribeye last weekend for $4.99/LB. Had me shocked!” Elsewhere, another person said this: “I’ve completely stopped going to Publix. Started doing Walmart online and using their neighborhood markets, since the big stores are actually pricier.”

It seems as though the public has spoken and may very well end up voting with their feet as well. While grocery stores can charge whatever they want for their produce, if they go too high then they may end up pricing themselves out of the market. Interestingly, it would also be intriguing to see what Publix had to say about their price rises of late.

Just purchased a 5 piece dinner for two at Popeyes which included two side dishes and two bisquits for $10.99 with coupon! Delicious and cheaper than Publix!

There’s no question that Publix is not what it used to be. Find myself in the same boat looking for deals at Winn-Dixie. While they’re always been better prices of many things at Walmart. Another tip is presidente market sometimes for example they’ll sell watermelons for two buck and 88 cent cantaloupes one on special!

I usually only go to Publix for their gallon spring water. Otherwise it’s Walmart Neighborhood Grocery and Aldis. I’m vegetarian and Publix’s dairy and fruits/vegies are way overpriced compared to these other stores. I used to go to Publix for everything in the 80s and 90s but no more!

I noticed they never have rotisserie chicken. I’ve been there 5 times and even wrote to corporate. They offered a free rotisserie chicken and went I went to get it they didn’t have any.

I was shocked at the prices for chicken also. Thought that maybe it was a typo or something. I like publix’s meat, but they are out of their freaking minds with their prices. Well have to look for another place to buy groceries. Especially when you are a senior on a very tight budget. One way to loose weight and become frail.

The price is outrageous but the chicken is better than anybody else’s

I keep my Sam’s club membership just for their rotisserie children. Always plus and juicy. Just can’t walk through the store otherwise I would be spending so much more. By the way, the price of the chicken hasn’t gone up in price, like forever. Still$4.98 each.

That’s a bunch of bs. First of all publix sells their chicken in an 8pack. It’s around 10 dollars. If the person wanted only chicken breasts then they would have to pay ind. Per pound. That might cost them more but they are not telling you the whole story. When you pay by the pound you always pay more. Chicken tenders is 7.99 a pound and 4 pounds would cost 32.00 so what is their point. Crabmeat can be 5.00 a pound or 50.00 a pound for Alaskan king crab. You get what you pay for. A 16 peice of fried chicken with 4 pounds of sides and 8 Hawaiian rolls can be had for under 40 dollars. It cost more at Popeyes and Kfc.

Thank you, I hate when people only tell the victim side of the story and never tell the whole truth. I ordered a 50 piece fried chicken from Publix yesterday and it was $47.99

Honestly Publix is way to over priced for anything. I shop Dollar General for some things, paper products. Laundry soap, hair care. Frozen vegetables. Condiments etc… They have great buys. ALDI I go for meats and some other things. Then Save-A-Lot and I call it a day. On a strict budget, gotta do what you have to in today’s day in age. Good luck shoppers.

Once upon a time you could do all your shopping at Publix, not no more. Produce is not good anymore, too pricey, or it’s not fresh.. Downtown Produce has better prices, and ALDI is my go to store now on certain items.

I have been shopping at Publix for years and I keep a eye out on pricing. I have seen how the prices have gone up. I work in retail. But I’m now shopping at the following .Walmart dollar general and dollar tree

Just returned from Florida after being there about 17 days for business, visiting relatives and for pleasure. Went to Publix once and will not return. Prices were an average of about 40% higher than most items at Aldi and Walmart. One more example is milk. A half gallon at Publix was $3.45. Other places were less than $3.00 for a gallon. No more donations!

I can only speak about the Publix at Kings Ridge and the Walmart in Clermont concerning groceries. Publix has a very clean store and the associates that I talk with are very friendly and helpful. I wish I could say the say for Walmart, but I can’t. Too many times I have asked an associate where I could find an item only to find that they do not speak English (please don’t tell me that I should learn Spanish). However, that being said, I have run into Publix associates shopping at Walmart. When I kid them, they advise me that they can not afford to shop at their store. I totally understand that. The prices at Walmart are so much cheaper than Publix. It’s getting to the point that I only go to Publix if I need something in a hurry since I live right there by them. Don’t misunderstand, I do like Publix but find them pushing me away with their prices.
