Memphis car crash after driver chances yellow light
Yesterday, dashcam footage showed a car crash at the intersection of Hwy 64 and New Brunswick in Memphis. Here, a speeding car chanced a yellow light and was hit by an approaching car on their right. After the collision, the black SUV continued to drive – so it’s not sure whether they pulled off or simply drove away.
As for the driver who got seriously hit, they were thankfully ok. Toward the end of the footage, you can see a woman get out of the car and assess the damage. Speaking of which, this wasn’t a major crash but it did cause a lot of wreckage, with a notable amount of debris left on the floor in the aftermath.
This shows the importance of careful driving and not trying to rush at a yellow light. Having said this, one Memphis resident claimed that this intersection is infamous for this kind of accident due to the lack of visibility. Here, they said: “That wide median makes visibility absolutely poor if someone is in the turning lane across the intersection. You can see far down the street, but nothing close to the intersection. The blind spot shifts as you approach too so people assume it is clear because they don’t see anyone while approaching the intersection. In reality, someone is just staying perfectly in that moving blind spot and it lines them all up perfectly for a wreck.”
With this said, we have genuine empathy with the victims of this crash and in fairness, it isn’t the easiest intersection to navigate. At the same time, this also stresses the point that you should be even more careful when dealing with tricky driving spots.
