Minneapolis City Govt BLASTED for closing popular bridge on July 4th Weekend
Minneapolis residents are not happy. And in fairness, it seems that the timing of the closure couldn’t have come at a worse time (literally). This is because it was recently announced that the Stone Arch Bridge would be closed from 30th June to 5th July. This covers the entirety of the July 4th weekend, as well as the actual day as well.
Undoubtedly, this bridge would have been used by lots of locals, seeing as it acts as a large public space and area to view fireworks displays. Not only this but it also acts as a good connection point to the city center. As seen below, the closing hours aren’t exactly favorable either.
Having said this, there may be a good reason for the closure. This is because one resident claimed that last year “People were driving on it and shooting fireworks at pedestrians. An elderly person walking their dog had a mortar launched at them.” So, it seems as though a minority of morons may have ruined the celebrations for everyone.
However, not everyone agreed and accused the local government of lazy policing, using blanket rules to punish the masses. Seeing things differently, this person said: “Instead of policing bad behavior our leaders think it’s a better idea just to punish everyone. Dumbest overreaction ever and the idiots are going to point to it and claim it worked. It’s a literal bridge, patrol both sides, and nothing is going to happen because there is literally nowhere for the criminals to go, literally the easiest situation/place to police.”
Irrespective of your views, remember to stay safe this weekend and also to enjoy the show. With this said, hopefully it will be safer than last year yet still just as enjoyable.
