Only REAL Louisville locals will remember this iconic ‘missile’ house
Although it’s now long gone, old school Louisville residents may remember the iconic ‘missile house’ located on 34th Street. This was perhaps one of the most bizarre garden ornaments to have featured in your front lawn, but whoever lived there seemingly loved it and displayed it with pride.
To this day, it’s not really known where the huge missile came from, or why it was featured outside of someones property. Nonetheless, it definitely gave the neighborhood character and made people smile as they passed it. In fact, many adults now refer to this as a classic childhood memory which says it all.
If nothing else, this also serves to a bygone era where everything wasn’t documented over social media. These days, you could probably find out the exact details of the origin story within minutes – whereas back then, these kind of quirky features were often shrouded in mystery which only added to their cult status.
Back in the day, conspiracies ranged from this being a life-like movie prop, a decommissioned military missile, and even a skilled DIY project. Regardless of how it got there, it quickly became a funny talking point for Louisville locals. Sadly, the missile has long gone. It is assumed that it was removed if (or when) the house was sold. It goes without saying that a new owner probably wouldn’t want a giant missile placed directly outside of their house.
