Philadelphia locals BLAST Council for 3-month summer break
It’s that time of year again when the summer is just beginning to start in Philadelphia, and even though the weather is nicer than ever – some people have used this time to moan about the city council and their annual three month summer break. In fairness, three months does seem very excessive, so you can see why locals aren’t exactly happy with this arrangement.
This has been going on for years, and the council describes it as ‘an annual legislative recess’ which is one of the highest for time off in the entire country.
Speaking on social media, Philadelphians weren’t happy, with one saying “I’d sure love one too, but I am actually accountable to something unlike these clowns.” while another agreed, adding, “They’re children and traditionally children have the summers off.”
The summer in Philadelphia is nice, especially if you’ve got a three month break!
Others saw the funnier side, claiming that it was due to escape the summer traffic at the Ben Franklin Bridge, or due to the main council building lacking air conditioning. However, one put it perfectly when they simply answered, “Because we tolerate it.”
Sadly, there is no definitive answer, and it sure looks like it’s a case of tradition and norms prevailing over common sense. Surely, as the hard-working people of Philly have to work for most of the year, three months seems incredibly out of touch in this day and age. Arguably, this represents the current divide between the powers that be and the common working man. Unfortunately, it seems that this is something that we can’t answer, and looks like it will continue this way until the foreseeable future.
Who wouldn’t want 3 mos off. Another abuse of taxpayers money. Maybe us taxpayers should have a say about this excessive amount of time. People work for more than 40 yrs on jobs and don’t get 3 mos off. With all the problem in this city, really. Put that together with all the other perks. Disgrace.
