Phoenix locals Divided over Fry’s new self-checkouts
Phoenix locals recently discussed the new self-checkout tills at Fry’s – and who knew just how divisive this system could be? It turns out that hundreds took to social media to discuss their views on these checkouts with some loving them, and some hating them.
As seen in the image below, this photo was taken at Fry’s in Camelback Colonnade, Phoenix whereby customers use the machine to process and pay for their goods. This technology has been around for years and is used elsewhere, but is still new to Fry’s. Thinking about it, it’s actually quite ironic considering that this city was one of the first to get Waymo driverless cars.
Speaking on the new checkouts, one local said, “When they added these belted self-checkout lanes, my wife and I LOVED It. It’s perfect for a two person trip if you use your own bags.”
However, not everyone viewed it this way – with one person claiming, “I quit using the belted checkouts because there’s always some idiot who starts scanning their stuff before I can finish bagging my groceries so I have to separate my stuff from theirs. Even when I leave my grocery cart in front of the scanner to block it until I’m done. People who shop at my Krogers are total morons.” Elsewhere, another claimed it was ‘immoral‘ due to putting people out of jobs.
We did say earlier that a surprising amount of people were hugely passionate about self-checkout machines and these were just a couple of comments that summed up what people thought of these. On that note, the future is now!
