Photo shows COMICALLY botched traffic lights & utility pole placement in Hawaii street
Compared to the rest of the USA, Hawaii is typically seen as more laid back and chilled. It seems that this stereotype was taken to the extreme when building the street around Kaimuki near the Breadshop store. This is because a literal utility pole and traffic lights were built within the architecture of the surrounding shops.
This is probably because the shops structure was originally built years before the city needed to add traffic and utility infrastructure. Due to the lack of space, they may have been forced to build them this way. So, technically it may not be botched and may be down to more creative city planning – depending on how you look at it. Nonetheless, it makes for an interesting sight and isn’t exactly the norm when you’re sitting in traffic.
In fairness, even if this is botched, it adds a bit of character to the area and sums up the quirky nature of Kaimuki nicely. On a practical level though, it may be quite difficult to see the stop lights due to the roof blocking them. Sometimes in life though, you have to make do with what you can!
On a final note, if you are around the Kaimuki neighborhood then check out Breadshop, some say they have the best brioche buns in all of Hawaii!
