Photo shows HUGE Folly Beach Parking price – “That’s Greedy”
Undoubtedly, Folly Beach is one of the nicer attractions in Charleston and is great for a relaxing family day out. However, one image recently riled up local residents which branded to some to label it “Greedy”. Depending on your view of the world, you may well agree that this is the case. So, what happened and why is it so controversial?
The sign was photographed outside of the entrance to Folly Beach and was charging a whopping $40 for parking. We can only assume that’s for the entire day, but still…it seems pretty expensive. By paying this, users would get easy access to the beach, alongside the shops and restaurants located nearby. Unsurprisingly then, this price was called out and seen as too expensive.
However, not everyone was disgusted. One person said, “Put yourself in the owner’s shoes. They’re out there to make money! If they can get $40 to park, good for them. If not, they’ll drop the price. Capitalism baby!” Whilst another claimed that it was even as high as $50 on Memorial weekend.
According to locals of the area, this price used to be around $20 a few years back, but this was during the off-season. For those wondering, people will pay and this price is often respected by tourists visiting the area. It’s no secret that South Carolina has some wealthy residents either, so this price may not be as crazy as it first seems.
I wouldn’t pay a dime to go to the worlds petri dish.
Shame on them exploiting the public. If it’s a private lot then I can see them charging no more than $20. Why should you have to pay to see the ocean which should be free to the public.
I pay extra just to stay somewhere that has a private beach so I don’t have to fight with the general public for space at the beach.
There’s plenty of free parking down the beach… Is that price ridiculous? Yes. Do you have to pay it? Definitely not.
Even if you park on the street you have to go on the web and pay a $15 fee or get a ticket
$15 IS A WHOLE LOT DUFFERENT THAN $40.
It’s been that high the last few years that’s the price you will pay to be close to the beach & restaurants. Is it outrageous? Yes especially for a gravel parking lot!
What about price gouging laws?
I hate paying to park anywhere, but it is a business that employs people and pays taxes. If you think it is too much, don’t park there. If people don’t park there, they will make zero, and prices will come down.
No matter where you work, I suspect there are people that think your company charges too much for something, and thinks your product and service should be free. That would mean you should work for free. Maybe I am wrong, but I doubt you think you should work for free.
