Portland van meme gets everyone saying the same thing
Yesterday a meme went viral which centered around Portland’s take on vans. The original image shows an angry hipster saying “Go back to Vantucky with your overpriced gas guzzler!” – whilst angrily looking at a new Ford pick-up truck. This is priced at $65,000 and does 20 miles per gallon.
The same hipster then looks delighted and pleased when looking at an older RV for $100,000 that only does 15 miles per gallon. As seen in the image below, the picture does it more justice than our description.
So, why does this meme touch such a nerve? Well, it seems that worn-out RV’s are really in fashion within the Portland area. At the same time, it seems that locals genuinely do seem to dislike trucks that are often associated with states such as Texas.
It seems that these vans aren’t particularly well liked amongst locals though – with one saying, “I see these things all over driven by guys who look like they are barely old enough to hold a job down. Always wondered where the cash came from” and other adding “Dude! That is totally my neighbor. Drives a gas guzzling sprinter van to “epic” destinations every weekend. But then has the nerve to tell me my F-150 is “harming the planet” even though I only drive it on the weekends to run chores around town and occasionally a trip to the forest.”
Based on this, it looks as though Ford pick-up trucks are not liked in Portland! Of course, this could be explained by our love for the MAX light system that is often used by residents of the city.
