Raleigh locals warned of ‘The Pastor’ scammer
A recent tale emerged whereby a Raleigh resident was approached by a man begging outside of Alamo off of New Bern Ave. Apparently, the victim ended up paying the beggar $10 for gas – as the culprit claimed to be out of gas or money and needed it to get home. Shortly after this exchange, they saw the same man asking others for money. Just days later, after returning to the same spot, he was at it once again.
The alleged scammer was driving a white truck – and it just so happens that this isn’t his first time tricking innocent people out of cash either. According to locals, he is known as ‘The Pastor’, as he often claims to be a pastor who is down on his luck and needs money for car problems. Furthermore, he has been grifting for years in various places throughout the city.
Although he was recently spotted at New Bern Ave, over the years he has worked around Durham and other places. He is also commonly known as ‘The water pump guy’, as he has previously asked for money to fix his water pump which is one of his many stories. Below is an image of his current truck.
It goes without saying that the best way to deal with this guy is to not give him any money, nor should you entertain his various sob stories. Thankfully, he is not known to be dangerous or aggressive – so although he is a conman, he is not physically intimidating either. As ever, stay alert and if it feels wrong, then avoid it altogether.
For real you all, the same man gaming you out of your hard earned money! That’s why I carry my mace and will use it when necessary!
