‘Scam’ letter infuriates Raleigh locals – “Do not respond”

Yesterday, a letter went viral on social media and divided Raleigh residents regarding its authenticity. This was delivered to a man and claimed to be a compulsory inspection for their recently installed HVAC system. One of the more interesting nuances of the letter is that it claimed how ‘re-inspection fees may apply’ and that even if the home owner wasn’t present, then they would re-visit the following day.

Understandably then, this letter drew cause for concern – which wasn’t helped by the fact that it didn’t have any company details on the letter and looked a bit fishy. Further adding to the conspiracy, the owner also claimed that their HVAC was added over five years ago with no problems.

Based on the responses of the community, this was most likely a scam – and many claimed that due to the HVAC being over five years, that this wasn’t realistic. Having said this, one person claimed, “If you recently had a new HVAC system installed, and they needed to run new gas or electric lines, they will need to get the counties inspection out there for permitting.” Still, the point remains that this was years ago so isn’t relevant to the story.

If you live in Raleigh and have experienced similar letters, then the best advise going is to completely ignore them. Obviously, if it is a real company then you will know at some point. However, if it is a scammer then you will probably not hear from them again. It’s also an example of always staying alert and keeping a rational head when dealing with these sorts of things.
