Seattleites BLAST Uber for expensive prices compared to elsewhere
Just two years ago, it was reported that Uber prices in Seattle had risen by 25% compared to the previous year (2020). Now, Seattleites are once again moaning about the price of using Uber taxis. And in fairness, it seems that they have a point.
This began with a discussion on social media whereby a Seattle resident claimed that a 20 minute ride cost over $60, whereas a 40 minute ride in LA cost $30. When looking at the previous 25% rise, it does seem that Seattleites have been given a bad deal by the car company over the years, so why is this?
According to local boffins, the reason is to do with the dense nature of Seattle – which has far more people per square meter compared to cities elsewhere. So, looking at the previous LA example, it’s known that LA Uber prices are based on a flat fee, whereas prices in Seattle are based on time spent on the journey instead. This means that it’s especially bad if you’re in a Seattle traffic jam compared to elsewhere.
Adding to the anger, another user wrote, “I don’t know why, but I’ve stopped using their service because of it. 80$ to go to the airport? Nah, I’ll just ride the train.”
Sadly, it looks as though this policy by Uber is here to stay – and there’s nothing that anyone can do about it. Unfortunately for locals, this is the harsh reality of business – and in fairness, it’s nothing to do with the city council either.
