SOLVE Volunteers collect over 2,900 lbs of trash at the Springwater Corridor (SE 174th)
As someone who takes great pride in living in Portland, you could say that I’m quite a fan of SOLVE. In short, SOLVE is a charitable group whose aim is to clean up and restore the environment of Oregon by volunteers who will litter pick, plant trees, and generally help the local wildlife. It also goes without saying that they also make Portland look a lot nicer in the process as well!
According to their website, Solve was “Founded in 1969, SOLVE’s mission is to bring Oregonians together to improve our environment and build a legacy of stewardship.” With this said, it’s not a new fad either.
At their last event a couple of days ago, the SOLVE team of volunteers managed to collect over 2,900 lbs of trash. On the one hand, I was very pleased to hear about this – but on the other hand it also shows just how wasteful our society has become.
If you’re interested in being a part of SOLVE then check out their website – the next big clean up is on April 22nd. I couldn’t make their last clean up but will be sure to make it to this one along with Dave. So, if you see us then say hi!
