This week saw a terrified single Portland woman terrified due to noises coming from her attic. The woman posted her fears on reddit in a desperate cry for help as she suspected that something sinister could be going on. Posting under the username, ‘SignificanceOk4590’ she wrote about unexplained noises, items falling through the drywall, and random movements coming from above.

According to the woman (who lived with her elderly mother), her mom also heard the noises and was equally as confused, whilst their pet dog would also get spooked by the bizarre goings on. As seen below, the user in question was not coping very well with her living arrangements.

Having said this, not everyone was convinced that her paranoia was justified. Some added that she should simply ask a neighbor to check for her, or order pest control. Arguably, getting in pest control would be ideal – as she even said she could pay a ‘fee’. Therefore, if it was something sinister going on then it would be investigated. However, if it was raccoons or something then this too would be dealt with.

Expanding on her point, she later claimed, “I wish that really was a help service… I know it doesn’t seem like a problem or issue. So many other little things keep adding to my paranoia. And my elderly mother hears more sounds and gets freaked out. Because I work long hours night shift… My dog even hears it and starts to bark and stay alert but then eventually lays back down. She stays in my mom’s room while I’m working…”

Now, conventional wisdom says that this is probably pests and can be solved with ease. Having said this, it could be a case of ‘phrogging’, which is a term used to describe when a stranger lives in an attic. Irrespective of theories, the user has since stopped posting on Reddit…which only adds to the mystery.
