The 10 Best Japanese Ramen Restaurants In Portland
Welcome to PDX, where we have some of the best Japanese Ramen restaurants in the country. In this article, I have picked my favorite 10 places to eat. Having said this, there are still loads more Japanese restaurants in and around the PDX area. Some are pretty good. However, I thought 10 was a good number to mention and as always, it’s ultimately up to the individual regarding their eating habits!
Anyway, my point is that if you love Japanese Ramen then you’re in luck if you’re visiting Portland, or if you live there. With enough rambling done, here’s my top 10 list (in no particular order)
Marukin Ramen – 609 SE Ankeny St A, Portland, OR 97214
A chain from Japan, Marukin Ramen offers a variety of broths and toppings for their authentic ramen dishes. Just make sure that you book in advance as this restaurant can get pretty busy at times, especially on weekends!
Afuri Ramen & Dumpling – 50 SW 3rd Ave, Portland, OR 97204
Another Japanese import, Afuri is known for its signature yuzu-based broth and various vegan and gluten-free options. It is also a hit with the local Japanese community which shows that this food is as legitimate as you can imagine.
Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya – 827 SW 2nd Ave, Portland, OR 97204
This local chain offers a variety of broths, including a vegetarian option, and traditional Japanese small plates. As seen, it also has some of the best decor in the city and offers more of a formal setting compared to some of its contemporaries.
Noraneko – 1430 SE Water Ave, Portland, OR 97214
Noraneko serves up a variety of broths, including a rich and hearty tonkotsu, along with a variety of small plates. In terms of atmosphere, this has to be up there with one of the best restaurants in the PDX area.
Boke Bowl – 1028 SE Water Ave, Portland, OR 97214
This local favorite offers a rotating menu of broths and toppings, as well as vegan and gluten-free options. Many in Portland believe this to be the best Japanese Ramen restaurant in the city. So, take that for what it’s worth.
Boxer Ramen – 1668 NW 23rd Ave, Portland, OR 97210
Boxer Ramen offers a variety of broths and traditional Japanese small plates, as well as a unique take on the classic Bloody Mary. As seen, it also has some of the coolest artwork in the PDX area – as well as a typical, Japanese minimalist dining area which is pretty cool.
Shigezo – 910 SW Salmon St, Portland, OR 97205
Shigezo serves up traditional and creative takes on ramen, with a menu that changes seasonally. This restaurant also offers a lovely Japanese grill which is great if you’re a lover of grilled Japanese foods. As you’d expect, their cuts of meats are beautiful!
Menya Noodle Bar – 80 SE Madison St suite 100, Portland, OR 97214
Menya Noodle Bar offers a variety of broths, including a vegan option, and traditional Japanese small plates.
Kinboshi Ramen – 609 SE Ankeny St A, Portland, OR 97214
Another Japanese import, Santouka is known for its rich and creamy tonkotsu broth and various toppings.
Mirakutei Sushi & Ramen – 536 E Burnside St, Portland, OR 97214
Ramen Kagura offers a variety of broths, including a spicy option, and traditional Japanese small plates. Although it is one of the newer Japanese restaurants in the city, it has quickly developed a fantastic reputation. You can literally taste the freshness of the food!
