Portland, Oregon has many great options for pancakes! Like many major cities in the US, PDX is no different and seems to be swarming with fans of the US classic breakfast, the pancake. Whether you’re after something teeming with sweet flavors and calories, or a lighter, lower calorie option – here are a few popular spots known for their delicious pancakes:

Slappy Cakes

This is a popular spot for DIY pancakes. You get to pour your own batter onto a griddle at your table and customize your pancake toppings. They offer a variety of batter options, including gluten-free and vegan. Arguably, this is the best place to go if you’re with kids – as the customization factor can make for some really enjoyable choices and mixes things up a little.

The Original Pancake House

This restaurant is a classic breakfast spot that has been serving up pancakes for over 60 years. They are known for their large, fluffy pancakes and offer a variety of flavors, including blueberry, banana, and bacon. In my opinion, their dutch baby pancakes are the best in the area. You don’t stay in business this long without having something good to offer!

Jam on Hawthorne

This restaurant serves up a variety of breakfast items, but their pancakes are a standout. They offer a variety of flavors, including lemon-ricotta, blueberry, and chocolate chip. This place has literally won ‘best breakfast awards’ on consecutive occasions so you know it’s well worthy of its delicious reputation.

Pine State Biscuits

While this spot is known for their biscuits, they also serve up some delicious pancakes. Their signature dish is a stack of three giant pancakes topped with butter and maple syrup. In other words, if you want your pancakes to fill you up properly, then Pine State Biscuits is a good spot. Unsurprisingly, if you’re into biscuits then it’s not too bad either.

Mother’s Bistro & Bar

This restaurant is a Portland institution and is known for its classic American breakfast items. Their buttermilk pancakes are fluffy and delicious, and you can add toppings like blueberries or chocolate chips. This joint is also open 7 days a week which is useful if you’re a pancake addict!

These are just a few of the many great options for pancakes in Portland. Enjoy your breakfast (or lunch, or even dinner…or even dessert)!
