This is the most expensive wooden antique in Portland…but is it TOO expensive?
This week, this antique was posted to the Portland Craigslist page. In short, it’s a beautiful wood carving of an eagle, which has great detail and even features chicks at the bottom of the sculpture. Undeniably, it’s a literal work of art and whoever crafted it is highly skilled. However, the price tag will most likely shock you…and not in a good way.
Despite its stunning characteristics, the eagle is listed with an asking price of $36,000. Now, this seems like an awful lot of dollar for an antique. Furthermore, due to its unusual nature, it seems like it would be hard to sell in the first place, and isn’t your typical antique in terms of there being a real market for this sort of thing. What’s more, it even has cracks. Whilst these are meant to be normal for a wood carving, it’s still a little off putting.
The listing reads: “Eagle wood carving, hand crafted by a master sculpture. One of a kind and very detailed. It comes from a non-smoking home. It is in excellent condition. You’ll see some minor cracks in the wood, which are normal. You’ll need to pick up, we can’t deliver.”
So, is this way too expensive, or is it justified considering the attention to detail and unique features? Sadly, it may be a case of this seller flying too close to the sun as far as the price is concerned. Comment below and give your opinion on what you would pay for it.
